Kent Police arrested an 18-year-old Seattle man for investigation of first-degree assault and unlawful possession of a firearm after a shooting early Thursday morning, July 31 at the Inn Between Pub parking lot.
Officers also arrested a 63-year-old Federal Way man for investigation of obstruction after a reported shooting between him and the Seattle teen, according to a July 31 Kent Police news release.
Officers responded at about 2:14 a.m. to reports of a shooting outside the bar, 25412 104th Ave. SE on the East Hill. Witnesses reported a man was attempting to leave the location in a black SUV.
Multiple officers arrived quickly, intercepted the SUV in the parking lot, and placed the driver, a 63-year-old Federal Way man, into custody, according to police. The driver initially refused to cooperate with the officers’ directions. He was believed to be armed and was seen attempting to grab something out of his vehicle. At one point he placed a handgun on the top of his car. He was eventually arrested for investigation of obstruction of a police investigation.
While the officers were investigating, dispatch advised that a patient with a gunshot wound to his leg was dropped off at Valley Medical Center in Renton, according to police. The man, 18, of Seattle, told officers that he was shot in Tacoma, but he would not provide any details. Officers continued their investigation and located evidence that linked him as a suspect in the shooting outside the Inn Between Pub. He was placed under arrest.
Witnesses said that the Federal Way man and the Seattle man had been in dispute prior to the shooting. Officers located surveillance video that showed the older man had been surrounded by the younger man and other males. They shoved the older male and tried to take his necklace, according to police.
The Federal Way man responded by shooting the Seattle teen in the leg causing the group to flee. The Seattle teen left on foot, returned a minute later, and fired shots at the older man, who was not struck and was not injured, according to police. There were no additional injuries reported to other parties.
Detectives responded to the scene to take over the investigation. They are collecting and reviewing evidence and witness statements to determine the circumstances that occurred prior to the shooting, and if additional charges are warranted.
