A sampling of Kent Police incidents Aug. 11-24:
Aug. 11
• Domestic incident: Officers responded to a recent domestic incident. The female victim, showing visible injuries, left the apartment with several witnesses. The suspect stayed inside, refusing to come out and hiding in a back bedroom. A warrant was promptly issued to enter the apartment. Shortly after approval, the suspect voluntarily exited and was arrested without any issues.
• Road rage: A road-rage incident occurred in the 1100 block of Fourth Avenue N. The victim reported that a white VW Tiguan was tailgating him and that the driver aimed a weapon at him. The suspect’s vehicle was later found near the police station on Fourth Avenue S. Authorities conducted a high-risk stop, and an in-field show-up led to the driver’s arrest on charges of DUI and weapons possession. A rifle-style BB gun was discovered on the driver’s side floor.
Aug. 13
• Drive-by shooting: 8:39 p.m., patrol responded to a potential drive-by shooting at the BLVD Apartments, 2100 S. 272nd St. Officers found that a party had been held at the pool, and several uninvited guests arrived. A dispute broke out, and as one group was leaving, shots were fired from a vehicle. Evidence was gathered at the scene.
Aug. 15
• Bar intruder: Officers responded to a report about an unwanted individual at Nashville Sports Bar, 114 Railroad Ave. N. The person, identified as “K-Dub,” was causing a disruption and needed to be trespassed. While trying to identify the person, another emergency call was received. The timing was suspicious, and a location check revealed the caller was near the bar. When officers returned, the individual had already fled in a white Lexus sedan. The vehicle was found the following day at JJ’s Bar & Grill, 23826 Pacific Highway S., but escaped from officers onto I-5.
• Necklace robbery: A necklace snatch robbery took place at Saar’s Super Saver Foods, 25928 104th Ave. SE. Surveillance footage identified the suspect vehicle, which Lakewood Police subsequently located. The vehicle was impounded, and potential suspects were identified, possibly linked to other robberies in the Lakewood area.
Aug. 17
• Slumped in vehicle: Officers responded to a welfare check at Driftwood Apartments, 1610 W. James Pl., involving two people slumped inside a vehicle. The vehicle was identified as stolen. Officers ordered them to exit. The female occupant initially refused, resulting in the use of pepper ball rounds. She then exited, re-entered the vehicle, and a second round was deployed. She was later taken into custody. The male passenger was detained without any issues.
Aug. 18
• Commercial burglary: 10:12 p.m., officers responded to Cycle Therapy, 215 W. Meeker St., regarding a commercial burglary in progress. Upon arrival, they observed a broken window, and another officer saw a subject walking away with a bicycle. This individual did not match the initial description. Patrol identified this person as a different suspect, while the original suspect was located nearby and arrested.
Aug. 20
• Shots fired: Officers responded to an incident at Central Flats Apartments, 1024 Central Ave. N., where the involved party fired a gun into the air. The other individual departed the scene and was not found. The person who discharged the firearm was later taken to a family residence for safety.
• Attempted robbery: Officers responded to JJ’s Bar & Grill, 23826 Pacific Highway S., about a potential attempted robbery. A bartender reported being approached outside by individuals in a vehicle, with one appearing to be armed. The bartender went back inside, and the individuals did not follow. A vehicle matching the description was later involved in a different incident in another city, but any link is unconfirmed.
Aug. 21
• Commercial burglary: Officers responded to a commercial burglary at Atkore, 7800 S. 206th St. The suspect used a U-Haul to steal roughly $1,000 worth of items. Some of these items were later found listed online. Earlier that morning, an officer watching the area saw the suspect return. When the suspect tried to escape, they were caught and arrested.
Aug. 23
• Suspicious death: Officers responded to a report of a suspicious death. Initial information suggested a self-inflicted injury, but no firearm was visible at the scene. The deceased’s mother delayed notifying authorities and had altered the scene. Detectives responded, and the gun was later found. The mother was determined to be uncooperative but not criminally involved. (The King County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the death a suicide by gunshot wounds of chest, according to its Aug. 26 report).
Aug. 24
• Fire incidents: Officers responded to two separate fire incidents in the 23000 block of 59th and 60th Place South. In the first, a fire was set on a doorstep. In the second, a fire started on a back deck and spread to other units. Video evidence was collected, but the suspect was not located. These incidents may be related to earlier reports of property damage in the area.
• Suspicious vehicle: Officers were dispatched to a suspicious vehicle at the entrance of Benson Village Apartments, 10820 SE 211th Pl. Two individuals were located inside a stolen SUV. Officers recovered stolen mail, narcotics, realistic replica firearms, and one actual firearm. Both individuals were arrested on multiple charges.
