Incidents include indecent liberties, carjacking, 7-Eleven robbery, stolen vehicle pursuits

A sampling of Kent Police incidents July 28 to Aug. 10:

July 28

Fraudulent vehicle transport: An officer responded to an auto theft incident at Manheim, 19711 77th Ave. S., an auto auction business, where a fraudulent company was hired to transport a vehicle purchased by the victim. The vehicle was later stolen by this fraudulent company, which then attempted to extort the victim for a fee paid in Bitcoin to recover it. The case was forwarded to detectives for further investigation.

July 29

Indecent liberties: An officer and their field training officer were dispatched to a sex offense. Through thorough investigative work, they identified the suspect and forwarded the case to detectives for an indecent liberties investigation involving a 71-year-old victim with advanced-stage ALS aka Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Robbery: Patrol responded to Walgreens, 27100 132nd Ave. S., regarding an incident behind the store. The victim reported being there to sell marijuana vape cartridges to an unknown individual they met on Instagram. When the suspect arrived, the driver demanded the cartridges and the victim’s cross-body bag.

July 30

Stolen new bicycles: An officer investigated a theft where two suspects stole two brand-new bicycles from the victim’s yard. The bicycles had been recently bought as birthday presents for their daughters. Using a Blue Bridge card, the officer bought two replacement bikes for the girl and took them to the residence.

Aug. 1

Reckless driving: An officer pursued a recklessly driven Honda Odyssey. The vehicle collided with a construction vehicle on South 218th St near Garrison Creek Park. Two suspects escaped on foot and were not caught.

Carjacking: 6:46 a.m., patrol responded to a carjacking near Catholic Community Services, 1200 W. Smith St. The victim said they had been sleeping in the old Kmart parking lot when they met someone to sell some clothes. The seller had brought several people, and during the negotiations, the suspect got into the victim’s vehicle and attempted to drive away. The victim tried to hold onto the car to stop the theft but was dragged before eventually releasing it.

Robbery: 6:33 p.m., patrol responded to an incident at 11600 SE 272nd Pl. The victim met a friend to sell trading cards. While exchanging cards and money in the car, the suspect took the cards, all the victim’s belongings, and drove off with the victim’s kitten inside. Later, both the vehicle and the kitten were recovered in Auburn.

Aug. 3

Stolen vehicle pursuit: An occupied stolen vehicle was located after a Flock hit from cameras placed at intersections across the city. A pursuit ensued, and the vehicle was stopped via a PIT maneuver (no damage to the police vehicle). The suspect fled on foot, jumped over a rail, and fell approximately 15 feet. The suspect was taken into custody and released to medical personnel as a precaution. Charges are being filed at large.

7-Eleven robbery: 10 p.m., patrol responded to the 7-Eleven at 1400 W.Meeker St., for a robbery. The clerk reported that a male entered, handed him a bag, and instructed him to put money into it. Instead of complying, the victim ran to a back room, locked himself inside, and only emerged when he saw the suspect fleeing.

Aug. 5

Assault: An officer took a report involving a female victim who was assaulted by her boyfriend’s mother, with whom they both lived. The incident began after the victim expressed concern about fentanyl being left around the house, posing a risk to her small children. The suspect allegedly took the victim’s phone when she attempted to call 911 and made threatening statements. The victim fled and hid in nearby bushes until she could flag down a passerby. Due to the incident occurring outside the 4-hour mandatory arrest window and additional concerns raised by the victim, charges are being reviewed.

Stabbing, robbery: 9:10 p.m., officers responded to a report of a stabbing near 10100 SE 260th Street. The victim stated they were approached by an unknown male in a parking lot who brandished a knife and attempted to steal a purse and necklace. The suspect broke the vehicle window and stabbed the victim in the arm before fleeing with the stolen items.

Reckless driver pursuit: An officer attempted to stop a recklessly driven vehicle. A pursuit ensued, and the vehicle was stopped via a PIT maneuver (no damage to the police vehicle). The driver, who appeared unfamiliar with operating a manual transmission, fled on foot. A K-9 track was conducted, but did not locate the suspect.

Aug. 6

Construction site burglary: 7:25 a.m., patrol responded to a theft at a construction site near 25600 124th Place SE. It was reported that a significant number of tools were stolen overnight from a locked portable building.

Aug. 7

Caught using drugs: During an extra patrol at Ventana Apartments, 329 Ridgeview Dr., an officer detained a male who was observed using drugs. The male initially provided a false name due to having an outstanding warrant. He was also found to be violating a protection order involving a female resident of the apartment.

Drug dealing: Officers responded to a welfare check at Burger King, 1240 W. Meeker St. A male was located in the driver’s seat of a vehicle with large amounts of cash and a plastic baggie containing suspected fentanyl. A suspected firearm (reported by the driver to be an airsoft gun) was also found. Management reported frequent foot traffic to and from the vehicle.

Aug. 8

Stolen vehicle arrest: Officers located a stolen vehicle after an automated license plate reader alert. A PIT maneuver was attempted to prevent a pursuit, but the suspect continued fleeing. A second PIT was successful, causing the vehicle to roll onto its side. The driver was taken into custody.

Aug. 9

Stolen vehicle pursuit: An officer located an occupied stolen vehicle traveling eastbound on Canyon Road toward SE 256th Street. A pursuit ensued, ending when the suspect vehicle collided with a parked car near 132nd Avenue SE and SE 204th Street. The driver fled on foot but was apprehended with the assistance of Guardian 3, a King County Sheriff’s Office helicopter. The 18-year-old suspect was taken into custody without further incident.

Animal shelter burglary: 11:11 p.m., officers responded to a commercial burglary in progress at the King County Animal Shelter, 21615 64th Ave. S. A broken window was found near the front door. The business was unoccupied, and aside from the cash register being disturbed, the premises were otherwise in order.

Aug. 10

Stolen vehicle pursuit: An officer located an occupied stolen vehicle following a Flock camera hit near 108th Avenue SE and SE 200th Street.
