A sampling of Kent Police incidents July 9-26:
July 9
• Multiple warrants: 12 p.m., an officer contacted a male suspect at 405 Central Ave. S., regarding suspected drug activity. The suspect lit a cigarette within 20 feet of a public building. Officers identified the suspect, who had multiple outstanding warrants. A minor use of force was necessary for handcuffing. The suspect then complained of chest pains and was assessed by fire personnel.
July 10
• Brotherly feud: 5 p.m., officers responded to a dispute in the 3500 block of South 239th Street involving two brothers. During the altercation, a firearm may have been brandished and fired. Upon arrival, officers detained the juvenile suspect. Subsequently, the victim’s adult brother attempted to assault the juvenile and was also arrested. The juvenile was booked into King County juvenile detention for second-degree assault, while the adult was booked into the King County Correctional Facility for obstruction.
July 11
• Threat with knife: 7:30 a.m., officers responded to a domestic disturbance at Paradise Mobile Home Park in the 400 block of Washington Avenue S. The male suspect became upset with his son and initially threatened family members with a wooden board, later escalating to a knife.
• Hometown Suites shooting: 3:14 a.m., officers were dispatched to a shooting at Hometown Suites, 25104 Pacific Hwy. S. The report indicated that a security guard had shot a guest who approached with his hands in his pockets. Officers located the security guard in the parking lot and detained him without incident. The victim was found in the stairwell on the second floor with one gunshot wound to the stomach and was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for emergency surgery. A single casing was recovered on the second floor, and detectives arrived to take over the investigation.
July 13
• Teen troubles: 8:15 a.m., officers responded to a call regarding a mother having trouble with her 13-year-old son. The son returned while officers were on the scene and initially displayed non-compliance, producing a large knife. Officers exercised patience and de-escalation techniques, resolving the situation without the use of force.
• Coach spits on ref: 3 p.m., officers responded to a fight at Emerald City Basketball Academy, 19441 66th Ave. S., during a children’s tournament. The investigation revealed that a male coach was upset with calls made during the game and spat on and attempted to hit the female referee. The suspect had left the scene before the officer’s arrival. The victim was cooperative; however, team members and tournament organizers did not provide information to help identify the suspect.
• Possible stabbing: 4:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to a reported stabbing at First Avenue North and West Smith Street. Upon arrival, officers found a male with what appeared to be a stab wound to the right ear. He had a significant laceration, which a punch rather than a stabbing may have caused. The victim’s account of the incident was unclear, raising concerns about his credibility based on prior contacts.
July 14
• Shots fired: 11:15 p.m., officers were dispatched to a non-injury shooting near Central Avenue South and East Morton Street. Multiple vehicles were struck, and over 30 casings were recovered. Surveillance cameras in the area may assist with the ongoing investigation.
• Lost child found: 2 a.m., officers responded to a report of a 2-year-old child found playing in the sprinklers at Benson Village Apartments, 10820 SE 211th St. The reporting party stayed with the child, who seemed happy and healthy. Officers then canvassed the complex and found the child’s family, who were actively searching for him.
July 15
• Pistol in disabled vehicle: Officers observed a disabled vehicle blocking traffic. During the inventory process, an officer noticed a loaded pistol magazine and identified the driver as a prohibited possessor. The driver indicated there was a gun in the car. The vehicle was seized for a search warrant.
• Man bites officer: A report of a domestic violence incident involving a male suspect fleeing in a car was made. Officers located the suspect’s vehicle about a mile away and initiated a traffic stop. Probable cause was established for the male, who refused to exit the vehicle, leading to a struggle to apprehend him. During the altercation, the suspect bit an officer’s hand, breaking the skin. The suspect was booked for third-degree assault and fourth-degree assault involving domestic violence. The officer sought medical attention for numbness in his hand but returned to duty that night.
July 19
• Street dispute: Officers responded to reports of four individuals assaulting a female in the 15000 block of SE Kent-Kangley Road. Officers arrived to find a highly intoxicated 15-year-old “victim,” one female and three males. One of the males fled but was quickly caught. It was determined that the “victim” had initiated the confrontation through unwanted touching and an assault. The male who ran was carrying a backpack. The “victim” claimed there were two guns with the others. As officers were releasing the detained runner, they found a Glock with a switch and drum magazine in the backpack. He ran again and was later identified as a suspect in a drive-by homicide in Renton. Authorities were unable to locate him.
July 22
• Suspicious death: 10:07 a.m., patrol officers responded to a suspicious death in a wooded area near 26000 Woodland Way. Scenic Hill Park city employees were flagged down by an unknown individual who reported a dead body in the woods. The individual did not provide further details and left the scene. The employees guided the officers to a small camp where they found a deceased male. At this time, there is no suspicion of foul play. The King County Medical Examiner’s Office initial report said the manner and cause of death of the 37-year-old man is pending further investigation.
July 24
• Stolen car pursuit: An officer located a stolen Subaru after a city Flock camera captured the license plate in the area of 108th Avenue SE and SE 208th Street. A pursuit continued into Renton. The suspect was not caught after the officer ended the chase.
July 26
• Commercial burglary: 6:51 p.m., patrol officers responded to a report of a commercial burglary at Alki Landscaping, in the 1000 block of Central Avenue S. A subject was seen inside the fenced lot going through vehicles and equipment. When officers arrived, they found the suspect still inside and apprehended him at the scene.
• Domestic disturbance: Officers were dispatched to a domestic disturbance call involving a firearm. The individuals involved were intoxicated. The suspect had pistol-whipped the victim with her own gun and threatened to shoot the victim and her friend. The victim’s two young children were also inside the residence. The suspect was ultimately called out and arrested without incident.
