A sampling of Kent Police incidents May 12-24:
May 12
• Jewelry theft: 5:59 p.m., patrol responded to a report of theft at the Hong Kong Market, 300 E. Meeker St. The victim was seated in their vehicle while their spouse shopped. A nearby vehicle was parked, and individuals approached the victim, offering jewelry. Several items were placed around the victim’s neck, and one was removed. During an attempt to retain their property, a necklace was broken. The suspects then left the area.
• Female found dead: 3:43 p.m., officers were dispatched to a residence at 12700 block of Southeast 256th Street. The reporting party returned home and found a female unresponsive. Lifesaving efforts were initiated until Puget Sound Fire and Medic One personnel arrived. The female was pronounced deceased. Preliminary information indicated there had been a verbal dispute earlier in the day.
• Juveniles caught: Officers responded to 301 Railroad Ave. N., for reports of juveniles involved in shoplifting and damaging property. One individual was restrained and transported to juvenile detention. Another juvenile was involved in a separate altercation. After a short foot pursuit, the individual was taken into custody, processed, and released.
• Unlicensed vehicle: An officer attempted a traffic stop on an unlicensed Honda Civic near 104th Avenue and Southeast 256th Street. The vehicle fled but was later found to have crashed into a dirt berm at James Street and Summit Avenue. The driver fled on foot and was later apprehended.
May 14
• Suspect arrest: Officers were advised that Seattle Police were attempting to arrest an individual at a workplace May 12 in Kent. The attempt was unsuccessful. On May 14, the individual returned, and officers responded to the location, safely detained the subject, and transferred custody to Seattle Police.
• Juvenile cases: Officers served an order related to a previous case at a location. The subject was taken into custody and booked into King County Juvenile Detention. In a separate matter, officers assisted Fife Police with a state Child Protective Services investigation involving a juvenile in Kent. The child was taken into protective custody, but CPS declined retrieval. The child had a known in-state relative in Spokane.
May 15
• Pedestrian injured: 4:42 a.m., officers responded to a pedestrian-involved collision near Fourth Avenue South and Willis Street. A pedestrian in a crosswalk was struck by a vehicle. Witnesses provided dash camera footage. The pedestrian sustained critical injuries. The driver remained on the scene and did not appear impaired. Traffic investigators responded, and the eastbound lanes were closed for the investigation.
• SODA violation: An officer conducting a proactive patrol near 7-Eleven contacted a subject with a city of Kent Stay Out of Drug Areas (SODA) order who was within a restricted zone. The subject was arrested and found in possession of 6.3 grams of fentanyl.
May 17
• Male with head injury: 9:37 p.m., officers responded to Valley Medical Center in Renton regarding a male with a significant head injury. Investigation revealed a domestic disagreement at a residence on Summit Avenue North. The male was transported to the hospital for further treatment. Detectives were notified and assumed the investigation.
May 19
• Weapons violation: Officers responded to reports of illegal discharge upgraded to a weapons investigation. A witness reported an individual firing a handgun into the air from a vehicle. The driver was located and detained. A probable cause was developed for multiple violations.
May 20
• Slumped over wheel: An officer located a male slumped over the steering wheel at the Safeway on Washington Avenue. Drug paraphernalia was visible inside the vehicle. The occupant refused commands, was removed from the vehicle, and arrested on a felony warrant. Additional controlled substances were recovered.
• Domestic disturbance: Officers responded to a domestic disturbance. A female was detained and transported, during which she attempted to strike an officer. She was booked for related charges.
May 22
• Warrants arrest: An officer attempted a traffic stop on the West Hill. The vehicle fled but was later located. A subject walking nearby was identified as the driver and detained. Multiple warrants were confirmed, and both he and a passenger were arrested.
• No-contact order violation: Officers responded to a report involving a found child. They determined a no-contact order existed between the child and one of the adults present. The adult was arrested for violating the order, and the child was taken into protective custody.
• Stolen vehicle arrest: Officers conducted a felony stop near Thea Bowman Apartments, 23920 32nd Ave. S., after a Flock camera hit identified a stolen vehicle. The driver was non-compliant, and the window was broken to facilitate arrest. Further evidence of vehicle thefts was discovered.
May 24
• Suspicious call: Officers investigated a suspicious call about an injured juvenile in the woods behind Target, 26301 104th Ave. SE. The call was traced to the Packwood area and appeared hoaxed. Officers located related evidence nearby and contacted the juvenile’s mother, who provided his location. He was found safe.
