Kent Police Blotter: May 26 to June 8

Incidents include domestic violence, store robbery, vehicle pursuit, copper wire theft

A sampling of Kent Police incidents May 26 to June 8:

May 26

Park incident: A male was observed engaging with children at Van Doren’s Landing Park, 22230 Russell Road, assisting them on slides and expressing an interest in utilizing the zip line. Following an intervention by a father, the individual lingered briefly before an incident occurred in which he grasped the arm of an 11-year-old girl while she was watching her sister. The subsequent investigation led to him being located on the Green River Trail, accompanied by another male with an outstanding state Department of Corrections warrant. The first male was subsequently booked into the city jail.

May 28

Erratic behavior: A male was reported to be exhibiting erratic behavior in the 108th Avenue SE/SE 208th Street area, throwing rocks through the windows of local businesses, including a 7-Eleven. He entered 24 Hour Fitness, where he confronted staff and customers aggressively. Following his detention by police, he was arrested for malicious mischief. The individual had previously received a warning for threats directed at city of Kent corrections officers and their families.

Domestic violence: A report regarding a domestic violence incident involving a weapon was received in the vicinity of Phoenix Court Apartments, 23913 111th Pl. SE, and Alba Gardens. Upon arrival, the suspect fled on foot toward a nearby school. School Resource Officers joined the response and successfully located the individual at the school while she picked up her child. Probable cause was established for fourth-degree assault and interference with domestic violence reporting, leading to a prompt and incident-free booking.

Domestic violence: An officer investigated a domestic violence incident where the victim was physically restrained by the suspect in their backyard. The victim managed to escape and sought assistance from a neighboring resident before relocating to her father’s house. The suspect was not located immediately but was apprehended the following morning when they visited the father’s residence.

May 29

Trespassing at gym: An individual previously released for trespassing at 24 Hour Fitness, 20600 108th Ave. SE, returned to the premises, violating the trespass order and causing damage. He was subsequently booked into the city jail due to prior threats made against employees.

May 30

Store robbery: Officers responded to a silent hold-up alarm at the 7-Eleven, 24012 104th Ave SE. Officers, aided by a cash tracker, pursued a vehicle believed to be connected to the incident, which continued toward Renton. A successful stop was executed, leading to the capture of a suspect matching the description of the robbery. The subsequent search revealed stolen cash and an object resembling a firearm. The suspect admitted involvement in the robbery while asserting the driver was unaware. The driver, who had an outstanding warrant, was also taken into custody, and the vehicle was impounded.

May 31

Harassment: An officer responded to a felony harassment case at the Ridgegate Apartments, 24808 100th Pl. SE. A witness reported an argument between a male and a female near the rental office, during which the male threatened the female and fired a gun into the air before they fled in a vehicle. This incident was linked to a previous assault call. While the suspect was identified, he was not apprehended at that time.

June 1

Copper wire thief: Multiple reports were received regarding a male suspect vandalizing a cell tower on 74th Avenue north of South 277th Street. The copper thief individual allegedly stole significant amounts of copper and equipment over multiple visits, causing extensive damage. Following a coordinated response from numerous police shifts, the suspect was located on Union Pacific railroad property, leading to his arrest on several felony charges. Stolen items, including a chain and locks, were recovered from his possession.

Weapon threats: Officers responded to reports of a male pointing a shotgun at passing motorists on Reith Road. Following a thorough search, the suspect was located after fleeing through the Avana West Hill Apartments. Upon confronting him, officers discovered he was holding a BB gun that resembled a shotgun. The individual complied with commands and was taken into custody without incident.

June 2

Drug possession: An officer contacted a subject in a vehicle at Hogan Park, 24400 Russell Road. The subject was not compliant and was arrested for obstructing. A Mac-10 BB gun was found under his seat, and a meth pipe was also observed in plain view. A search warrant for the vehicle was obtained, confirming the weapon was a BB gun. The subject was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia.

June 3

Carjacking: 2:10 p.m., patrol responded to the 7-Eleven at 13100 SE 240th St., regarding a carjacking. The victim reported being stopped by two males who requested help with a ride. Initially, the suspects asked the victim to call someone for them, then requested a ride. As the interaction progressed, the victim noticed that one had their hands in their pants awkwardly, possibly holding a firearm. The suspects later inquired whether the victim wanted to buy a gun. When the victim refused, the suspects ordered the victim away from the car, leading to the relinquishment of the vehicle out of fear. Later, the vehicle was located occupied in Federal Way, and the suspects were arrested.

June 4

Vehicle pursuit: An officer was responding to an order violation in progress with the respondent possibly armed. Upon arrival, the officer found a running truck matching the suspect vehicle description. The car fled the lot once illuminated. A pursuit ensued, and another officer spiked the front driver’s side tire. The suspect westbound on SR 18 into Federal Way, eventually losing control. The vehicle was pinned in on both sides. The male in the vehicle was identified as having a felony warrant for unlawful possession of a firearm. It was later discovered that there was a miscommunication regarding the vehicle being pursued. An officer contacted the petitioner about the order violation. The respondent had sent the victim a video of himself holding a rifle and had called and texted her. The suspect was in a black Jaguar and left when police chased the truck.

June 5

Vehicle pursuit: An officer recognized an unlicensed vehicle that had been pursued on April 18. He attempted to stop the vehicle, but it fled again. Another officer stopped in front of the vehicle while a third officer pinned it in from the back. The driver was taken into custody. He admitted to fleeing due to expired tabs and the ongoing evasion case and disclosed that his two children were in the car at the time.

Copper wire theft: 7:35 a.m., patrol responded to Altech at 800 First Ave. S., regarding a commercial burglary. An employee had just arrived for work and discovered the fence had been cut. Upon checking for stolen items, approximately 300 feet of copper wire had been stolen.

Fight: 6:29 am, patrol responded to 7-Eleven, 1400 W. Meeker St., regarding an incident that had just occurred. Officers arrived and found the victim with several injuries. Another person was located and detained. Witnesses reported that an argument turned into a fight, where one subject used a knife. The victim was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment, and the incident is still being investigated.

June 6

Firearm threat: 8:18 p.m., officers responded to the 25800 block of the Green River Trail regarding a threat with a firearm. Patrol interviewed the victim and a witness who reported that they were approached by a known subject and two others who struck the victim after inquiring about a specific girl. The victim attempted to flee but was tackled and assaulted until one suspect brandished a gun and demanded the victim’s clothes. After a K-9 track, one suspect was arrested.

June 7

Two-vehicle crash: Multiple callers reported a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of 132nd Avenue SE/Kent-Kangley Road. Officers found one driver unconscious and without a pulse. CPR was performed, and medics took over care. Witnesses indicated that one vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and ran a red light. The driver was stabilized and taken to Harborview Medical Center, as were the occupants of the other vehicle, one in critical condition.

Attempted strangulation: 9:43 p.m., officers were dispatched to a physical domestic incident in progress. The call indicated that a female had jumped from a moving vehicle, reporting her ex-boyfriend had strangled her. The investigation revealed that she had been coerced into a car, where the suspect attempted to strangle her. After multiple attempts to escape, the suspect fled the area but was later arrested with the assistance of Auburn Police.

June 8

Stabbing: 12:29 p.m., patrol responded to 64th Avenue S. and West Smith Street regarding a stabbing. Officers found the victim with a head injury and a stab wound. The victim reported being attacked after the suspect asked for the time. The suspect was later located and identified through an in-field show-up.
