Kent Police arrested four people for investigation of driving under the influence (DUI) of drugs or alcohol during extra patrols early in the morning on New Year’s Day.
Police provided the details of each arrest in a Jan. 6 Facebook post:
• A Seattle man, 26, at about 1:08 a.m. Jan. 1 after he attempted to do a U-turn at 104th Avenue SE and SE 204th Street but ended up striking another vehicle, according to police. A breath sample indicated a blood alcohol level of 0.15, almost twice the legal limit to be driving of 0.08 in Washington state. There reportedly were empty beer bottles in his car.
• A 54-year-old Kent woman who was stopped by an officer at about 2:08 a.m. for excessive speeding, according to police. An overwhelming smell of alcohol helped lead to her arrest. She also reportedly neglected to put the vehicle in park and rolled backwards into a patrol car. She refused to give a breath sample and had a prior DUI conviction.
• A Kent man, 32, reportedly ran a red light and might have struck a patrol vehicle if the officer didn’t move the SUV out of the way. The man reportedly smelled heavily of alcohol and admitted to drinking at a friend’s house about 5 minutes away, according to police. The man told the officer he thought it was 11 p.m., but it was 2:45 a.m. He claimed his last drink was at 10 p.m. His breath test indicated a blood alcohol level of 0.18.
• An Auburn woman, 30, reportedly became aggressive with fast food staff while loitering in a drive thru at about 4:50 a.m. Staff called 911. When an officer arrived, the woman reportedly tried to leave and struck the officer’s vehicle, according to police. She tried to drive down the road but an officer used a precision immobilization technique (PIT) maneuver to safely bring her vehicle to a stop. An officer reported the woman allegedly was extremely intoxicated and despite a temperature of 37 degrees, wore a swimsuit-type outfit, according to police. At one point, she apparently could not remember if she had pants on. She was incapable of giving a breath sample, so a judge approved a warrant for a blood draw. She remained uncooperative with officers, according to police.
