Kent Police make two arrests for weapons-related crimes

Kent Police made two arrests for weapons-related crimes in separate incidents where people were threatened with a knife in one case and with a gun in a second case.

In the first case, officers responded at about 12:30 a.m. July 3 to the Lake Meridian Metro Park and Ride near the 26800 block of 132nd Avenue SE, according to a Kent Police statement.

A 37-year-old Kent man reportedly approached a couple near their car, according to police. The couple had just seen the man in an argument with a woman, who had sped off in a vehicle.

The man threatened them and then reportedly approached a third victim, pulled out a knife and held it to the victim’s throat, according to police.

Officers arrived and flooded the area. They spotted the suspect nearby. Police took the man into custody without incident. Officers found a knife on him. Police arrested him for investigation of first-degree assault and felony harassment.

In the second case, at about 9:15 p.m. July 3 in the 8300 block of South 221st Street, a 22-year-old Kent woman allegedly pointed what appeared to be a handgun at another driver, according to police. The incident began when the woman reportedly attempted to cut in line at a drive-thru.

The victim complained and told officers the woman pointed what he believed to be a handgun at him. He backed away and called 911 to report the threat.

Officers arrived and contacted the involved parties. The suspect initially stated that the argument was only verbal, and no guns were involved, according to police. Through investigation the officers located video that showed the suspect pointing a handgun at the victim. The weapon, which was still inside the vehicle, was reported to be a very realistic BB gun. The suspect was wearing a security uniform for a local business when contacted.

The woman was arrested without incident for first-degree assault and transported to the King County jail. Her vehicle was towed pending a search warrant to retrieve the weapon.
