With no “significant leads or suspects” in the shooting death Aug. 19 of a 27-year-old Kent man, Kent Police want the public’s help to find the person responsible.
Arnulfo Gomez-Vazquez died of a gunshot wound outside of his unit at about 9:50 p.m. Aug. 19 at the Somerset Apartments, 10900 S.E. 255th Pl., on the East Hill.
“Detectives have interviewed a number of witnesses to the incident since beginning their investigation,” according to a Aug. 25 media release from Kent Police Lt. Pat Lowery. “They have also conducted an extensive background investigation of Gomez-Vazquez while looking for clues. Neither inquiry has produced any significant leads or suspects.”
Kent Police have scheduled a press conference for 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at City Hall in an effort to reach out to the public for help. Relatives of Gomez-Vazquez also are scheduled to be at the press conference.
An announcement also is expected Friday about a reward for information in the case through Puget Sound Crime Stoppers.
“Mr. Gomez-Vazquez was a hard working man who appears to have been targeted for some unknown reason,” Lowery said. “We are committed to identifying the person responsible for his death and providing some answers to the victim’s family and friends.”
Officers arrived at the apartment complex and found Gomez-Vasquez wounded in the parking lot outside of his apartment with a single gunshot wound in the torso. He was unconscious and not breathing.
Paramedics were unsuccessful in their efforts to revive Gomez-Vasquez, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The shooting does not appear to be a random act of violence or gang related, according to police.
Detectives are still trying to determine the connection between the shooter and Gomez-Vasquez as well as the reason behind the shooting.
