The Kent City Council is seeking volunteers to write the statements that will appear in the voters’ pamphlet both for, and against, a property tax measure to pay to maintain and improve existing parks and streets.
People interested in writing either statement must submit an application by noon, Tuesday, Aug. 7. The applications will be provided to the city council for appointment at its meeting that evening at 5 p.m.
At their July 31 meeting, council members voted to send a proposed levy lid lift to the voters this November under Ordinance 4042.
Two, three-member committees will be appointed to prepare statements no longer than 200 words. The “Statement For” and the “Statement Against” will appear in the King County Voters’ Pamphlet for the Nov. 6 General Election.
Arguments must be submitted to King County Elections no later than 4:30 p.m. Aug. 15.
The successful appointees will be notified by the city, and their information will be submitted to King County Elections on Aug. 10. King County Elections will contact each committee for their statements.
Arguments prepared by the “pro” and “con” committees will be made available to the opposing committees for rebuttal after 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 15. Statements rebutting the opposing side’s statements must be submitted no later than 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 17.
