Enjoy a Mexican buffet dinner and attend a silent auction Sunday to help raise money for the Lucy Lopez Community Center in Kent.

The first Lucy Lopez Community Center Winter Event runs 5-9 p.m. at the Kent Senior Activity Center, 600 E. Smith St. The dinner goes from 6-8 p.m.

“It is a fundraiser to help us to continue to operate,” said Raul Ramos, co-founder along with Roberto Gonzales of the center, a nonprofit cultural and education facility serving a growing Latino population as well others in the city. “We welcome the entire community. It should be a fun event.”

Tickets are $30 or $35 at the door. Advance tickets can be purchased online at www.lucylopez.org or by calling 253-854-0042.

“This is our first Winter Event, but we plan to have one every year,” Ramos said.

Mexico Lindo Restaurant and Mazatlan Restaurant will provide food for the buffet.

The Lopez Center offers pro bono immigration advice, courses in English, distance-learning programs for getting high-school diplomas, immigration workshops, computer access, interpretation services, public-health assistance and homeowner-education forums and other services.
