A 29-year-old man reportedly stole a vehicle from a Kent service station after the driver went inside to pay for gas and left his keys in the ignition.
The incident occurred at about 9:33 a.m. Jan. 4 at a station in the 10200 block of Southeast 240th Street, according to the police report.
Three days later, Seattle Police spotted the vehicle, a 1999 GMC Yukon, and took the man into custody for investigation of vehicle theft.
The man initially tried to steal a U-Haul truck from the station, but the woman driver saw the man in the truck, grabbed a beer can the man brought into the vehicle and started to hit him in the head with the can. The man jumped out of the truck and then stole the GMC Yukon.
The Yukon owner told officers he went inside to pay for gas and when he came out his SUV was gone. He said he left his keys in the vehicle.
A store video camera reportedly showed the man who stole the vehicle walking into the station’s store. The woman who had the U-Haul identified the man from a police photo montage.
Burglary
Police arrested a man for investigation of burglary after he reportedly entered an apartment Jan. 5 in the 24800 block of 96th Avenue South and took numerous items before the apartment’s resident chased him out of the unit.
Officers arrived at the apartment complex to find a man detained by several people outside of the unit, according to the police report.
The apartment resident said as he talked on his phone in another room he heard a strange sound in a nearby room. He went to that room and saw a man he didn’t know sitting in a chair, holding a silver BB gun pistol. The resident pushed the man out of the apartment.
The man reportedly took cash, credit cards, cameras, a flashlight, a knife, a Xbox 360 and a laptop computer from the apartment. The man declined to talk to officers. He had a warrant from the state Department of Corrections.
The man reportedly entered the unit through an unlocked sliding glass door.
False statements
Officers arrested a man and a woman for giving false statements after they each initially gave false names to police during a dispute at about 6:20 p.m. Jan. 6 in the 1300 block of West Meeker Street near the intersection of 64th Avenue South.
Witnesses reported that the man and woman were fighting with each other along the street, according to the police report.
Officers used a mobile fingerprint scanner to get the actual identities of the man and the woman. The man and woman told police they gave false names because they had arrest warrants.
Theft
Police arrested a man for investigation of third-degree theft after he allegedly stole a bottle of Jack Daniels at about 7:32 p.m. Jan. 4 from the Fred Meyer store, 25250 Pacific Highway S.
Store security called 911 to report the theft after watching the man reportedly remove the bottle from a shelf, place the bottle under his jacket and walk out of the store without paying for the item, according to the police report.
When store employees stopped the man outside of the store, he gave back the bottle and fled on foot. Police spotted the man a short time later walking into a smoke shop in the 24800 block of Pacific Highway South. Officers noted the man appeared to be intoxicated.
“That’s right, I took it,” the man said to police. He added that he took the bottle because he wanted it and he was drunk.
