No Kings rallies set for South King County cities on Oct. 18

Covington, Auburn, Renton, Des Moines among cities where people will protest Trump administration

Many No Kings Day rallies are planned for Saturday, Oct. 18 in South King County, regionally and nationally to protest against the Trump administration.

Local rallies include Covington, Auburn, Renton and Des Moines. An estimated 2,500 rallies are expected throughout the nation, including in Olympia and Washington, D.C.

“Kings Day of Peaceful Action,” according to Indivisible Covington. “We will unite in a nationwide mobilization uniting millions of Americans in nonviolent protest against President Trump’s authoritarian actions and power grabs.”

Indivisible is a nationwide movement that helps organize the events across the states.

An estimated crowd of 1,500 lined the streets of Covington during the first No Kings rally on June 14.

A statement on nokings.org summarized the reasons for the second rally against President Donald Trump.

“His administration is sending masked agents into our streets, terrorizing our communities,” according to the statement. “They are targeting immigrant families, profiling, arresting and detaining people without warrants. Threatening to overtake elections. Gutting healthcare, environmental protections, and education when families need them most. Rigging maps to silence voters. Ignoring mass shootings at our schools and in our communities. Driving up the cost of living while handing out massive giveaways to billionaire allies, as families struggle.

“The president thinks his rule is absolute. But in America, we don’t have kings and we won’t back down against chaos, corruption, and cruelty.”

House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-Louisiana, called the No Kings rally during an Oct. 10 Fox News interview the “hate America rally,” according to a msnbc.com report and other media sources.

Ezra Levin, the executive co-director of Indivisible, responded to Johnson’s quote during an interview on MSNBC.

“They’ve got to make some other name up for it because they understand, if they say ‘No Kings,’ how is that objectionable?” Levin said.
