The Kent Parks Foundation has received a $10,000 grant from the PETCO Foundation to help develop an off-leash dog park on Kent’s East Hill. The Foundation will present a check to Mayor Suzette Cooke at the City Council’s Aug. 17 meeting. The meeting starts 7 p.m. at Kent City Hall, 220 Fourth Ave. S.

Volunteers have been working to clear a 3.5-acre site, formally undeveloped, located east of Morrill Meadows Park on S.E. 248th St. It will contain fenced-off areas for both large and small dogs. The goal is to have the park open in October. This will be Kent’s first off-leash dog park on the east hill.

The Kent Parks Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is to support the Kent Parks, Recreation, and Community Services’ efforts to better the communit. Its focus is not only Kent parks, but also activities and programs at Kent Commons, the Senior Activity Center, and the Kent Parks Community Center.
