Kent Police arrested a woman for investigation of prostitution after an undercover officer replied to an escort advertisement on www.backpage.com.
Officers arrested the woman March 24 inside a hotel room in the 6300 block of South 212th Street after the woman allegedly had exchanged text messages with an undercover cop to meet for a sex act, according to the police report.
Police looked at advertisements on www.backpage.com because prostitutes and pimps are known to use the website to post “escort” ads that include phone numbers to reach a woman.
The officer saw an ad for an escort in the Kent area and called the number. A woman answered and the two later exchanged text messages to meet later for a sex act. The woman said during the phone call that half-hour prices were $80 and a full hour cost $120.
Officers showed up at the hotel and employees recognized the woman in the advertisement as someone staying at the hotel. The manager knocked on the hotel room door and a woman answered.
Officers entered the room and called the woman’s cellphone to confirm it was the same phone used earlier during the exchange of text messages. The woman told police she had worked about 10 years as a prostitute and was going through some rough times and was trying to make ends meet.
Assault
Officers arrested a man for investigation of fourth-degree assault after he reportedly hit his girlfriend in the face as they were traveling in a vehicle March 26 in the 9400 block of South 212th Way.
The woman called 911 after the boyfriend allegedly had punched her after picking her up at a party in Lakewood, according to the police report. Officers noted the woman had a swollen lip.
The woman said the boyfriend showed up at the party and made her get in the car so he could take her home.
A Washington State Patrol trooper initially stopped the car in response to the 911 call before Kent Police took over the incident.
The boyfriend told police they had an argument about their relationship in the car and that the woman hit his hands because she was upset that he did not care about her or their kids. He apologized to police for hitting the woman.
Drugs
Police arrested a man for investigation of a violation of the uniform controlled substance act after he reportedly tried to enter Kent Municipal Court with cocaine wrapped up in a dollar bill.
The incident occurred at about 1:40 p.m. March 28 at the municipal court at 1220 S. Central Ave.
A screener at the courthouse found on the man a dollar bill folded up with a white powder on it that looked like cocaine. Police tested the powder and it returned positive for about 0.2 grams of cocaine.
The man told officers he had ingested cocaine earlier at a friend’s house and folded up the remainder of it in a dollar bill. He said he forgot he had the cocaine on him.
Liquor violations
Officers cited two teens for investigation of being minors in possession of alcohol after they were spotted pouring alcohol into cups while in a vehicle at about 10 p.m. March 24 in the parking lot of a bar in the 300 block of Washington Avenue South.
Police were patrolling in the area because of a report of a “rave” party going on. The officer noted that such parties can lead to people drinking and doing drugs in the parking lot, according to the police report.
The officer saw a teen pour alcohol into a cup for the passenger and then put alcohol in another cup for himself. Both teens admitted to police that they had alcohol in their cups. The officer poured out the alcohol and took photos of a liquor bottle and the mixed drinks.
The two were cited and released.
Harassment
Police arrested a man for investigation of harassment after he allegedly threatened to punch and shoot a man during an incident at about 8:40 p.m. March 24 outside of a church in the 20800 block of 84th Avenue South.
A man called 911 to report another man making threatening comments including, “I have a gun and I’m going to shoot you guys,” according to the police report.
A church member told officers the man had asked him to come outside the church. The church member told police he went with the man even though he knew the wife of the man attended the church which had caused strain in the couple’s relationship.
While outside, the man told the church member he was going to get a gun and also raised a fist and threatened to punch the church member, who then left the scene in fear. No gun was found by police or seen by the member of the church.
