Protests in several South King County cities will be part of scheduled peaceful, anti-Trump rallies across the state and nation on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 1.
Groups will hang or hold banners on numerous freeway or highway overpasses, including South 277th Street along State Route 167 in Kent/Auburn and the Covington-Sawyer Road Highway 18 overpass between Southeast 272nd Street and Costco.
A group called Indivisible Auburn, part of a nationwide movement, is leading the South 277th Street overpass protest that will run from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on Sept. 1 on the border between Auburn and Kent.
“We’re over it—and we’re taking it to the overpass,” according to an Indivisible Auburn social media post. “Join Indivisible Auburn WA on Labor Day as we stand together against the kidnapping, corruption, gaslighting and the destruction of democracy.”
Large pre-made banners will face both northbound and southbound freeway traffic, reaching thousands of drivers on one of the busiest travel days of the year, according to the group. People holding signs will be positioned at either end of the overpass to wave at traffic entering or leaving the freeway or traveling along South 277th Street.
On the overpass itself, participants will hold banners securely or wave to the traffic below—no loose items will be allowed over the freeway for safety, according to Indivisible Auburn.
