Reports of ‘threats with a gun’ causes Kentwood High lockdown

Subject detained Friday afternoon, Dec. 6; no weapon found

Kentwood High School in Covington went into lockdown Friday afternoon, Dec. 6 after a call about someone making threats with a gun.

“There were reports of threats with a gun,” according to a Dec. 6 email from Brandyn Hull, spokesperson for the King County Sheriff’s Office. “The subject has been detained by deputies.”

No weapon was located, Hull said.

A call about the threats came in just prior to 2 p.m. It was not confirmed if it was a student who made the threat, Hull said.

“This happened on campus possibly in a portable,” Hull said.

Kent School District officials lifted the lockdown by 3 p.m., according to a district spokesperson, which meant students were kept at the school after the normal 2:10 p.m. release time.

Kentwood is at 25800 164th Ave. SE, in Covington, which contracts with the King County Sheriff’s Office for police services.
