Several hundred people take part in Earth Day event at Green River College in Auburn

Several hundred people participated in Kent-based Blue Origin’s Inaugural Run for the Benefit of Earth at Green River College in Auburn.

Blue Origin employees and their families as well as members of the general public ran courses of 1 mile, 5 kilometers or 10K at the April 22 event across the campus.

“We hosted this event near Kent and at our sites around the country to celebrate Earth Day and raise awareness about why we must protect our planet,” said Sara Blask, a Blue Origin spokesperson, in an email. “It was also a natural moment to give back to our community. Green River College has a beautiful trail system on their campus and we’re incredibly appreciative of their hospitality.”

Blue Origin also hosted runs near its other facilities in Cocoa Beach, Florida; Huntsville, Alabama; and Van Horn, Texas.

“There’s only one Earth, and we must preserve it,” said Michael Edmonds, Blue Origin senior vice president for strategy, marketing and sales. “Last weekend, we celebrated the beauty of our planet while looking to space as a long-term solution for helping to preserve humanity’s blue origin. In the not too distant future, we’ll be able to leverage the abundant resources of space to ensure a much more sustainable future for generations to come.”

Owned by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Blue Origin opened its aerospace company in 2000 in Kent.

Blue Origin envisions a future where millions of people live and work in space for the benefit of Earth, Blask said.
