Drivers should plan ahead for an overnight full closure of northbound and southbound State Route 167 in Kent on May 1-2 and May 4-5 for a toll project upgrade.
The section of SR 167 from South 212th Street to 84th Avenue South/Central Avenue North will be closed in both directions from 10 p.m. Thursday, May 1 to 4 a.m. Friday, May 2, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT).
The following on- and off-ramps will also be closed:
South 212th Street on-ramp to southbound SR 167
Southbound SR 167 off-ramp to 84th Avenue South
Central Avenue North on-ramp to northbound SR 167
Northbound SR 167 off-ramp ramp to South 212th Street
All lanes will be closed overnight from 84th Avenue South/Central Avenue North to West Willis Street/SR 516 from 10 p.m. Sunday, May 4 to 3 a.m. Monday, May 5.
The following on- and off-ramps will also be closed:
84th Avenue South on-ramp to southbound SR 167
Willis Street on-ramp to northbound SR 167
Northbound SR 167 off-ramp to 84th Avenue South
Southbound SR 167 off-ramp to Willis Street
A signed detour will be in place.
The work is part of the SR 167 Corridor Improvements Project, according to WSDOT.
The project is comprised of the SR 167 Toll Equipment Upgrade Project and the SR 167, SR 516 to South 277th Street Southbound Auxiliary Lane Project. As part of the SR 167 Toll Equipment Upgrade Project, WSDOT plans to update the SR 167 toll system to create consistency along the Interstate 405/SR 167 corridor.
This project would upgrade the SR 167 toll equipment to be the same as the I-405 toll equipment, resulting in a continuous 50-mile I-405/SR 167 express toll lane system and a consistent customer experience in the express toll lanes. WSDOT also plans to construct an auxiliary lane on southbound SR 167 between SR 516 and South 277th Street in Kent.
Once the project is complete, travelers will experience new, modern SR 167 express toll lanes that tie into the Renton to Bellevue I-405 express toll lane system, currently under construction, and the express toll lanes to Lynnwood, which opened to the public in 2015. The long-term vision includes a 50-mile express toll lane system between SR 512 in Puyallup and the I-405/I-5 interchange in Lynnwood.
