Sterling Connell, Meeker Middle School student and Eagle Scout candidate, completed a project at the Ravensdale Cemetery April 16 to begin its restoration.
Miners killed in a coal mine explosion were buried in the cemetery.
Sterling and 63 other volunteers cleared out the grave areas, taking out brush and blackberries. Sterling contacted Cedar Grove Composting to see if the company would donate the yard waste recycling fee and the company was happy to help Sterling, donating 6,000 pounds of yard waste recycling that was delivered Saturday in 10 truckloads by Sterling’s crew of volunteers.
Sterling organized 275 man hours on the day of the project.
