Southbound lanes of SR 167 reopen in Kent; northbound still closed | Update

6-mile stretch between Kent and Auburn

Southbound State Route 167 has reopened in Kent and Auburn following an extended closure due to floodwater from the Green River.

On-ramps to southbound SR 167 also have reopened in this area, according to a Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) update late Wednesday morning, Dec. 17.

Northbound SR 167 remains closed between South 212th Street (milepost 22) in Kent and 15th Street Northwest (milepost 16) in Auburn due to standing water on the highway. On-ramps to northbound SR 167 are also closed at the following locations:

Northbound SR 167 on-ramp from SR 18

Northbound SR 167 on-ramp from 15th Street Northwest

Northbound SR 167 on-ramp from South 277th Street

WSDOT crews are continuing monitor floodwaters from the Green River with local, county and federal partners. Crews have worked continuously to redirect water away from the state highway.

There is no estimated time to reopen the northbound lanes. People should seek alternate routes during the ongoing closure, add extra time to their commute and expect delays along Interstates 5 and 405 and other alternate routes.

The city of Kent reopened two sections of streets but most remain closed due to water over roadway.

When the streets will reopen remains to be determined, according to a city Public Works Department update.
