The year may have started late for kids in the Kent School District, but at least it should still end on time (providing there are no snow days, of course).
The Kent School District Tuesday released a revised student calender for the 2009-2010 school year putting back the 10 days missed due to the Kent Education Association strike that moved the first day of school from Aug. 31 to Sept. 15.
The majority of days inserted back into the calendar shorten the three main breaks through the year.
Winter vacation was shortened by two days, with Dec. 21 and 22 being turned into school days.
In February, the planned break for Presidents’ Week has been turned into a four-day weekend with teachers and students now returning to class Feb. 17 instead of Feb. 22 as originally planned.
Spring Break was also changed to a two-day break, instead of a week as originally planned. Students and teachers will be expected to be in school April 7 instead of returning April 12 from a full week off.
In addition, two no-school days, Jan. 27 and March 5, were changed back into classroom days.
The school year is still scheduled to end June 18, with June 21 and 22 set aside as make-up days in case of any other closures.
