SUV driver could face vehicular homicide charge in Kent pedestrian death | Update: woman identified

A 66-year-old Black Diamond woman is under investigation for vehicular homicide after her SUV struck a 25-year-old Kent woman crossing a sidewalk.

“This is being investigated as a vehicular homicide as the collision involved a death,” said Kent Police spokeswoman Melanie Robinson in a Thursday email.

Frishta Noori died from multiple blunt force injuries, according to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office media report on Friday.

Robinson said the vehicle had a green “globe” traffic signal while the pedestrian had a “walk” signal according to the preliminary investigation about the 2 p.m. Wednesday collision at the intersection of East Smith Street and State Avenue North.

The SUV driver made a left turn from State Avenue North onto East Smith Street and did not see Noori in the crosswalk, police said. Noori was walking northbound in the crosswalk with her two children in a stroller. The children were unhurt.

Police traffic investigators said drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor. Officers continue to investigate what caused the crash.

“Any other particulars of the collision are currently under investigation,” Robinson said.

Officers and firefighters who first arrived performed life-saving efforts on Noori. Paramedics transported Noori to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, but she died by the time they arrived at the hospital.

Police closed multiple downtown streets as officers investigated the crash.
