The T-Birds face the Portland Winter Hawks Saturday at a special start time of 6:05 p.m. at ShoWare Center.

Hockey Challenge 2009, which benefits Ronald McDonald House Charities of Western Washington and Alaska, takes place Saturday.

Hockey teams are formed by sponsors that raise money to play in the challenge. All proceeds from the challenge directly support operations of the Seattle Ronald McDonald House, which provides a “home-away-from-home” for children and their families during medical treatment. Last year the Seattle Ronald McDonald House provided accommodations for 800 families.

Hockey Challenge 2009 Schedule

Game 1 – E&D vs. Mobile Services, 11:35 a.m.

Game 2 – SQL Server vs. Exchange, 1:30 p.m.

Game 3 – Windows Live vs. MS IT, 3:25 p.m.

Celebrity Autograph Session – 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on west concourse of ShoWare Center

Game 4 – Seattle Thunderbirds vs. Portland Winter Hawks, 6:05 p.m.

Game 5 – Celebrity All-Star, immediately following T-Birds/Winter Hawks game

A ticket to the Hockey Challenge gives fans access to all challenge events on February 28 at ShoWare Center. Events include the Celebrity Game and autograph session, all other challenge games and the T-Birds game that night against the Winter Hawks. The Celebrity Game is scheduled to start after the T- Birds’ game ends.

The Celebrity autograph session starts 5 p.m. at the ShoWare Center and will go until 5:30 p.m. Celebrities scheduled to appear in the All-Star game and at the autograph session include: Michael Rosenbaum (“Smallville”), Jason Thompson (“General Hospital”), Cameron Bancroft (“24: Day 4,” “Hockeyville” on CBC), Brian Basset (cartoonist of “Adam @ Home” and “Red and Rover”), Kelly Tysland (formerly Kelly Stephens 2006 U.S. Women’s Olympic hockey bronze medalist), Bill Wixey (KCPQ news anchor) and Ian Furness (KJR 950 AM Host).

T-Bird alumni playing in the Celebrity All-Star game include Jamie Huscroft, Al Kinisky, Regan Mueller, Blake Knox, Lloyd Shaw and Danny Lorenz. Several former NHL players also will take part in the All-Star game.

Over the past 10 years the Hockey Challenge has raised more than $3.5 million for the Seattle Ronald McDonald House.

On Sunday, the T-Birds face off against U.S. Division rivals, the Everett Silvertips, at 5:05 p.m. at ShoWare Center.

The Thunderbirds are currently in fifth place in the Western Conference playoff standings. They are three points ahead of the Silvertips, as the two teams are jockeying for playoff position. The T-Birds have a 4-4-0-0 record against the Silvertips this season.

The T-Birds are expecting large crowds for both games. To purchase single-game tickets to either of these games, fans should go to the ShoWare Center box office or go online to www.seattlethunderbirds.com

T-Birds season tickets are currently also on sale. Season tickets can be purchased by calling the T-Birds office at 253-239-7825.
