A new weekly group in Kent is focused on middle-school-aged youngsters who have family members in the military. The “I am a Military Kid’ group is open to any child in this age group with a family member who has served or is serving in the military.

Teens are invited to join the group as it meets 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Calvary Chapel South in Kent, 317 Fourth Ave. S.

While the group is organized by Valley Cities Counseling and Consultation, participants don’t need to be clients to join. The group will focus on developing skills and ways to cope with issues such as being separated from a loved one in the military, multiple deployment of family members, relocation and having to say goodbye and start over, how they are affected by war and terrorism, and changes in their family, school, and social lives. The group began its weekly meetings Nov. 9.
