Two children in Barbie Jeep hit, injured by alleged drunk driver near Kent | Update

Two small children were injured when the driver of a pickup truck struck the battery-powered Barbie Jeep they were riding in Tuesday evening just east of Kent and south of Covington in unincorporated King County.

A 3-year-old girl remained in serious condition on Wednesday morning at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, according to a hospital spokesperson. A 5-year-old boy is in satisfactory condition.

King County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded at about 5:20 p.m. to a crash in the 19800 block of Southeast 281st Street, according to an email from Sgt. Ryan Abbott. The pickup driver, a 26-year-old Kent man, reportedly was drunk when he hit a mail box, veered off and hit the jeep.

Deputies arrested the man for investigation of two counts of vehicular assault. The driver fled the scene but was caught by deputies about one-half mile away.
