Vehicle in Kent strikes, kills female pedestrian on East Hill

Dec. 26 incident second pedestrian death in 3 days in Kent; third in 13 days

A 37-year-old female pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle in Kent near the intersection of 108th Avenue SE and SE 224th Street on the East Hill.

Officers responded just before 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, according to a Kent Police news release. Officers found the woman unconscious and not breathing.

Officers began CPR on the woman and were later assisted by Puget Sound Fire personnel. They were able to revive the woman and medics transported her to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle in critical condition. She did not survive her injuries and died at the hospital, according to police.

Initial information indicated that the woman was crossing 108th Avenue SE, not in a crosswalk, traveling west across the roadway, according to police. A white SUV was traveling southbound on 108th Avenue and collided with the pedestrian. The driver of the involved vehicle, a 55-year-old woman, remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

At this time, neither speed nor intoxication appear to be a factor in this collision, according to police. Police traffic investigators were called in to complete the investigation.

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet released the identity of the woman.

3rd pedestrian death in 13 days

This marked the second pedestrian death in Kent in three days and the third in 13 days.

• A vehicle struck and killed a pedestrian, a 42-year-old Auburn man, Tuesday evening, Dec. 23 in the 18200 block of East Valley Highway. Frederick T. Charles died of multiple blunt force injuries, according to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office Dec. 24 report.

Officers were dispatched at about 5:24 p.m. in response to multiple 911 calls of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle, according to a Dec. 24 Kent Police news release. Witnesses said Charles was crossing East Valley Highway from east to west with another pedestrian and was struck by a southbound vehicle. He was reportedly not in a crosswalk, according to police.

• A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run collision late Saturday night, Dec. 13 in Kent along State Route 516 near West Meeker Street. Cipriano Valdovinos Pio, 55, of Kent, was killed in the 11:46 p.m. collision, according to the Washington State Patrol.

A vehicle was traveling eastbound on SR 516 (aka Kent Des Moines Road) just east of West Meeker Street in lane two of two, according to the State Patrol. The pedestrian also was in lane two when struck. He died at the scene.
