Woman sustains moderate injuries after Kent crash with semitruck

Collision occurred Aug. 18 in the 22400 block of 83rd Avenue South

A woman suffered moderate injuries after her vehicle collided with a semitruck Monday afternoon, Aug. 18 in Kent.

Firefighters responded at about 12:51 p.m. in the 22400 block of 83rd Avenue South, according to Puget Sound Fire spokesperson Pat Pawlak. Firefighters used specialized equipment to remove the driver, who was alone in the vehicle. The woman was treated for moderate injuries and transported to a nearby hospital.

“The firefighters used hydraulic struts, capable of lifting 20 tons, to slightly lift the semi-trailer off of the vehicle and then used the ‘Jaws of Life’ to remove a portion of the roof,” Pawlak said in a Tuesday, Aug. 19 email. “It took firefighters approximately 15 minutes to extricate the driver.”

Sixteen fire department personnel responded to the incident, including firefighters specially trained in heavy rescue.
