WSDOT plans lane, ramp closures on I-5, SR 516 in Kent

Lane and ramp closures on Interstate 5 and State Route 516 in Kent, Des Moines and SeaTac continue Monday, Sept. 22 through the morning of Saturday, Sept. 27.
The lane and ramp closures on I-5 will allow crews to stripe the road, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). The lane and ramp closures on SR 516 will allow crews to install signage. The SR 509 lane and ramp closures will allow crews to install signage and pave the road.
The work is part of the SR 509 Completion Project.
I-5 lane closure information
Monday, Sept. 22 through the morning of Friday, Sept. 26
• 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. – Up to three lanes of southbound I-5 will close nightly between SR 516 (Exit 149) and South 272nd Street (Exit 147).
Monday, Sept. 22 through the morning of Wednesday, Sept. 24
• 11:59 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. – Up to four lanes of northbound I-5 will close nightly between SR 509 (Exit 150) and South 200th Street/Military Road South (Exit 151).
Wednesday, Sept. 24 through the morning of Friday, Sept. 26
• 9:30 p.m. to 4 a.m. – Up to three lanes of northbound I-5 will close nightly between SR 509 (Exit 150) and South 200th Street/Military Road South (Exit 151).
I-5 ramp closure information
Monday, Sept. 22 through the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 23
• 9 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. – The northbound I-5 exit to SR 509 will close overnight. A signed detour will be in place.
Tuesday, Sept. 23 through the morning of Wednesday, Sept. 24
• 9:30 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. – The northbound I-5 exit to SR 516 will close overnight. A signed detour will be in place.
Thursday, Sept. 25 through the morning of Friday, Sept. 26
• 9 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. – The northbound I-5 exit to SR 509 will close overnight. A signed detour will be in place.
• 9:30 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. – The northbound I-5 exit to SR 516 will close overnight. A signed detour will be in place.
SR 516 lane closure information
Monday, Sept. 22 through the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 23
• 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. – One lane of eastbound SR 516 will close overnight between SR 99 and Military Road South.
Monday, Sept. 22 through the morning of Wednesday, Sept. 24
• 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. – One lane of westbound SR 516 will close nightly between Military Road South and SR 99.
Thursday, Sept. 25 through the morning of Friday, Sept. 26
• 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. – One lane in each direction of SR 516 will close overnight between Military Road South and SR 99.
SR 516 ramp closure information
Monday, Sept. 22 through the morning of Wednesday, Sept. 24
• 11 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. – The westbound SR 516 ramp to northbound I-5 will close nightly. A signed detour will be in place.
• 11:59 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. – The eastbound SR 516 ramp to northbound I-5 will close nightly. A signed detour will be in place.
Monday, Sept. 22 through the morning of Thursday, Sept. 25
• 11:59 p.m. to 5 a.m. – The SR 516 ramp to southbound I-5 will close nightly. A signed detour will be in place.
Thursday, Sept. 25 through the morning of Friday, Sept. 26
• 11:59 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. – The eastbound SR 516 ramp to northbound I-5 will close overnight. A signed detour will be in place.
SR 509 Completion Project information
The SR 509 Completion Project builds 3 miles of new tolled highway between I-5 and South 188th Street near the south end of Sea-Tac Airport. The new highway will be completed in stages. The portion between I-5 and 24th Avenue South opened on June 28 and a new tunnel under I-5 at the SR 516 interchange opened on July 16. The final stage builds the remaining 2 miles of the expressway between 24th Avenue South and South 188th Street. The entire project is planned for completion by 2029.
