A shooting in Auburn on Nov. 6 left an elderly man hospitalized in serious condition after two suspects attempted to carjack him.
According to a news release from the department, Auburn police discovered the elderly man “with at least” one gunshot wound after responding just before 9 p.m. to reports of a shooting in the 600 block of M Street Northeast.
According to an email from Kolby Crossley, a spokesperson for the Auburn Police Department, the shooting occurred in a church parking lot.
Officers found the elderly man after arriving at the scene, with first responders transporting him to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle in serious condition.
The two suspects fled on foot, with patrol units conducting a K9 track, and detectives arriving at the scene to take over the investigation.
According to Crossley’s email, investigation continues into the shooting, as of Nov. 13, with the suspects remaining outstanding.
Investigation found the shooting occurred during the attempted carjacking of the man in the parking lot of the church.
Law enforcement collected a single shell casing as evidence in the incident, according to the department’s public information log.
Investigators believe two suspects, dressed in black, approached the man as he walked to his vehicle and attempted to rob him, according to the release. An altercation ensued, leading to the man being shot.
Detectives have been in conversation with the man following his hospitalization.
“The [man] is recovering,” Crossley stated.
