Early Sunday morning Renton crash kills one

Single-vehicle crash on Jan. 14 resulted in injuries to multiple occupants, including children.

An early morning single-vehicle crash on Sunday, Jan. 14 in Renton killed one and resulted in injuries to multiple occupants, including children.

According to the Renton Police Department, the vehicle exited the roadway on Benson Drive South and Southeast 172nd Street. The vehicle struck a tree at a high rate of speed with several passengers on board, including four adults and two children. One of the adult passengers died at the scene.

First responders transported passengers and the driver to local hospitals with non life-threatening injuries, according to the department.

Police diverted traffic around the area as they conducted an investigation of the crash, with temporary road closures from Benson Road South to South 27th Place.

As of 6:53 a.m. Jan. 14, the Renton Police Department issued an update that the roadway had been reopened.
