Enumclaw man dies in rollover crash on SR 167 in Auburn

James W. Maclam was ejected from his car as it flipped over a barrier onto an onramp below.

A rollover crash on State Route 167 near Auburn resulted in the death of an Enumclaw man on Thursday, Nov. 3.

According to a Washington State Patrol release, James W. Maclam, 60, was driving north on the highway near the intersection of Highway 18 around 6 a.m. when he drifted onto the right shoulder. In attempting to reenter the roadway, he overcorrected and struck another driver.

Maclam’s vehicle then spun around, struck the right-side barrier, and vaulted over the side, coming to rest on its top onto the eastbound onramp from Highway 18 to SR 167.

Maclam was ejected and was declared dead on arrival by first responders. It does not appear he was wearing his seatbelt.

The other vehicle sustained little damage, and the driver was uninjured.

The cause of the collision is under investigation.
