Fatal shooting at The Shores Apartments in Federal Way

On Aug. 18, a man was pronounced dead after he suffered a gunshot wound to the chest.

A man was fatally shot at The Shores Apartments the morning of Aug. 18 in Federal Way, and the suspect subsequently fled on foot and has not been located.

According to Federal Way Police Department officer Casey Jones, officers responded to a report of a shooting at 7:30 a.m. Aug. 18 at The Shores Apartments, 31821 Third Place SW. Jones said that officers discovered a 43-year-old man who had suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. Officers and fire personnel initiated life-saving efforts, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Initial investigation indicates that the suspect, who fled the scene on foot, was known to the apartment’s occupants,” Jones said. “A K-9 track was initiated, but was unsuccessful in locating the suspect. The investigation remains active, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.”

Jones said that officers are still processing the scene, so he does not have any definitive answers on what happened inside the apartment or outside. He said the shooting was not random, and there is no known danger to the public at this point.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call 253-835-2121.
