The city of Renton has chosen a construction company for Phase 2 of the Legacy Square project.
At the Oct. 13 Renton City Council meeting, the council awarded Andersen Construction Company of Washington LLC with the contract for Legacy Square Phase 2. Andersen Construction submitted the lowest bid at $1.248 million, which was $256,367 below the engineer’s estimate. The project will be funded by a $1.498 million grant from the state Department of Commerce, which will be included in the Q3 2025 budget adjustment.
The Legacy Square will be a cultural hub in Renton’s downtown area. The park will be located on a currently vacant lot near the intersections of South Third Street and Logan Avenue, and will serve as a public viewing area for the 2026 World Cup matches, as well as a space for public events after the conclusion of the international soccer tournament next summer.
“This vacant lot is definitely an area of town that could be reimagined,” Renton administrative assistant Gina Estep previously said about the project. “Public gathering spaces we feel are a vital component of a healthy, safe community, often uplifting quality of life through human connection and activities.”
Phase 2 of the project includes construction of a fully enclosed free-standing stage with audio and visual components, installation of a bathroom and all the electrical systems for the project.
Phase 1 of the project began over the summer and included earthwork, utility installations, asphalt paving, lighting, park signage, concrete flatwork, site furnishings, landscape planting, and irrigation improvements at the bidded cost of $1.5 million.
Phase 3 will include the design and installation of the play equipment.
The project is planned to be completed before the 2026 World Cup, which kicks off on June 11, 2026. The first match in Seattle will be on June 15.
