Man, 68, fatally shot in Federal Way on Feb. 13

Killed in 32900 block of Hoyt Road

A 68-year-old man was fatally shot on Feb. 13 in Federal Way.

According to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office, Steve A. Dahl, 68, died as a result of a gunshot wound that went from his neck into his chest. The medical examiner’s office ruled Dahl’s death as a homicide.

Federal Way Police officers were dispatched at approximately 1:15 a.m. Feb. 13 to a person lying in the roadway in the 32900 block of Hoyt Road Southwest, according to Cmdr. Kyle Buchanan of the Federal Way Police Department.

Officers located Dahl upon arriving at the scene with severe injuries and an electric scooter near him, according to Buchanan. First responders attempted unsuccessful lifesaving efforts.

Medical personnel pronounced Dahl deceased at the scene.

According to the department, officers initially thought the incident served as a vehicle vs. pedestrian collision, with further investigation determining that the man suffered a gunshot wound. The 911 call center received no reports of a shooting.

The department’s investigation continues into the incident, with detectives assigned to the criminal investigation team providing assistance.
