Man attempting to cross I-5 struck and killed in Federal Way

The driver and his passengers were not injured or charged with any crimes in May 2 incident.

A man died after being struck by a car on Interstate 5 in Federal Way.

According to the Washington State Patrol, at 7:15 p.m. May 2, there was a report of a fatal traffic collision on I-5 near State Route 161 in Federal Way. A male was struck and died while he was attempting to cross the highway, according to WSP. This caused the roadway to be blocked for a total of 3 hours and 9 minutes.

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office reported that the deceased was John Roy Crawford, 35. His cause of death was ruled multiple blunt force injuries, and the manner was accident.

According to the state patrol, a 2018 GMC Yukon was traveling southbound on I-5 near SR-161 in lane one of five when the pedestrian who was struck attempted to cross the highway from the left shoulder to the right shoulder. The GMC then struck the pedestrian in lane one, and the pedestrian came to rest in lane one and the GMC came to rest on the right shoulder, according to the state patrol.

According to WSP, the vehicle that struck the man was driven by a 38-year-old Spokane man, accompanied by a 34-year-old Spokane woman, an 11-year-old and an eight-year-old. No one in the vehicle was injured, and no charges were brought forward.
