Renton man arrested in Seattle DUI collision that killed 20-year-old

State Patrol arrests 30-year-old man for investigation of vehicular homicide in Oct. 27 Seattle incident

The Washington State Patrol arrested a 30-year-old Renton man for investigation of vehicular homicide and DUI following the Oct. 27 death in Seattle of a 20-year-old Othello man.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the Renton man struck the Othello man at approximately 9:01 p.m. Oct. 27 with a vehicle after the 20-year-old walked into the roadway of the Interstate 5 northbound express lanes near the Seattle Convention Center. Investigation from law enforcement reportedly found the Renton man under the influence at the time.

According to the State Patrol, the Othello man died at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle following the collision.

Prior to the collision, the Renton man traveled northbound on I-5 in the express lanes, entering the convention center driving behind another vehicle.

The Othello man, walking on the left side fog line, stepped into the roadway, resulting in the vehicle in front of the Renton man swerving and braking to avoid striking the 20-year-old.

The Renton driver swerved to the left, striking both the Othello man and the second vehicle, with the 20-year-old thrown to the left shoulder of the roadway. Both vehicles arrived at controlled stops on the left shoulder.

The collision resulted in roadway blockages for 3 hours and 53 minutes.
