Renton police recover $1.5M of stolen merchandise in Federal Way home

Renton Police served a search warrant at a Federal Way residence on June 20.

Renton Police have recovered an estimated $1.5 million of stolen merchandise from a suspected property trafficker.

On June 20, Renton police served a search warrant at a Federal Way residence — the home of a suspect at the center of a case involving hundreds of thousands of stolen items sold on eBay.

According to a news release from the Renton Police Department, Detective Brian Jordan, of the department’s Special Enforcement Team, led the development of a case against a 32-year-old Federal Way man, with investigation finding multiple shoplifters provided stolen items to him.

Working with store loss prevention personnel, Jordan traced stolen merchandise to the suspect’s Federal Way home, according to the news release. After submitting an application, Jordan received a warrant to search the residence.

Multiple units within the department all assisted in the serving of the warrant, including members of the Special Enforcement Team, uniformed Directed Enforcement Team, patrol officers and Investigations Division detectives, according to the news release.

Police discovered and recovered merchandise stolen from various stores including over the counter medications, personal care products, laundry detergent, power tools, vacuum cleaners, kitchen appliances, plumbing fixtures, computer hardware, audio equipment, Lego products, and printer cartridges. Detectives found merchandise packaged for shipping and addressed for delivery to buyers nationwide.

Renton Police arrested the trafficking suspect as a result of the warrant.

According to the news release, Renton Police have increased efforts to address shoplifting in partnership with businesses.
