Snow leads to hundreds of incidents along King County highways, freeways

State Patrol responds to 279 collisions, 865 other incidents over 3 days

How bad are the highways and freeways in King County due to all the snow this week?

Well, Washington State Patrol troopers have responded in King County to 279 collisions and 865 other incidents, such as vehicles stuck, etc., since the snow began falling on Christmas, according to a State Patrol tweet on Tuesday morning, Dec. 28.

“Stay home if you can, if not, slow down,” the State Patrol tweeted.

Numerous lanes were blocked Dec. 26 along northbound Interstate 5 near Southcenter in Tukwila after a trooper’s SUV was struck, according to the State Patrol. The trooper was not injured.

The National Weather Service predicts more snow could fall in the Seattle area Wednesday night and into Thursday, possibly another 1 to 2 inches.

Temperatures are predicted to stay below freezing until a high of 36 degrees on Thursday, but the low that night could drop to 20. On New Year’s Day, the high is predicted to be 39 and the low 34. On Sunday, it’s predicted to be a high of 41 and a low of 34.
