Kentwood High quarterback Shane Green was suspended for last week’s 42-14 win over Auburn Riverside, and may miss the remainder of the season due to violating the Kent School District’s athletic code.
“There has been a code violation and we are investigating,” said Kentwood athletic director Jo Anne Daughtry.
Kentwood officials also are investigating whether other plays may also have violated the athletic code.
Green, a senior, has thrown for 763 yards and eight touchdowns this season.
The fifth-ranked Conquerors (8-0) play host to Kentridge (4-4) at 7 p.m. on Thursday. Green will not play in the game, Daughtry said.
“The administration is looking into the situation further, and we should hear something next week,” Kentwood football coach Rex Norris said in an e-mail. “It’s unfortunate that a bad decision was made, and I can only hope that he will learn from this.”
The district is expected to finish its investigation on Friday.
In Green’s absence last week, sophomore quarterback Dane Manio connected for three touchdowns in a win over the Ravens.
On Thursday, the Conquerors have the opportunity to wrap up their first unbeaten regular season since 1994.
