Kent-Meridian basketball teams from 1990s meet for reunion

Members of the Kent-Meridian High School boys and girls basketballs from the early 1990s recently gathered for a reunion.

About 30 former players and their spouses – as well as several coaches – attended the Dec. 10 gathering at BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse in Tukwila.

Alumni from as far away as Colorado, Las Vegas and Texas returned. Former boys coach Mike Albrecht, now principal at Kentridge High, and former assistant coach Dave Jameson, now the Kentridge boys basketball coach, were at the reunion as was Derek Powell, former Kent-Meridian girls’ coach and the only basketball coach in school history to win a state championship.

K.J. Roberts, a 1991 Kent-Meridian graduate who went on to play basketball at the University of California, Berkeley, organized the reunion, now in its second year, and is planning another event for next year.
