Kent schools budget meeting is Thursday

The Kent School Board has set a community work session for 7 p.m. Feb. 26 at Kentwood High School. The topic of the meeting will be to get citizen input on what the highest-priority schools programs should be. The input will be key to upcoming school-board decisions about how to make up for an expected $16 million budget shortfall for the 2009-2010 school year.
The district estimates it could save $679,000 by eliminating middle school athletics, although staff acknowledges the potential for increased attendance problems and dropouts.
