Firefighters from Kent, Maple Valley and students from Bates Technical College used donated buildings for a three-day training exercise April 13-16.

The burns took place at 15328 S.E. 280th St., and 15406 S.E. 280th St.

All harmful materials such as asbestos, roofing materials and carpeting were removed before burning.

The training allowed firefighters to study fire behavior and different firefighting techniques.

And while the training exercises were controlled, that’s not to say they weren’t highly strenuous. Participants lugged fire hoses, crawled through rooms and practiced fire-suppression techniques in temperatures that were over 200 degrees. In all, doing the things that go into fighting a major structure fire.

Watch the slide show above to see how the April 16 burn went.
