Kentridge won a pair of games in West Central District baseball playoff action Saturday to advance to the state Class 4A’s final field of 16.

The Chargers defeated Tahoma, 5-1, early Saturday at Puyallup’s Heritage Field behind Joe Wainhouse’s monstrous home run and four RBIs. Wainhouse’s 10th homer of the season, the 24th of his high school career, was a 400-foot, three-run bomb in the fifth inning.

Ryan Schroeder went six innings, striking out four to pick up the win.

In the second game, the Chargers exploded for 20 hits in a 22-4 demolition of Gig Harbor at the same park to advance. The win earned the Chargers the district’s No. 5 spot to state.

Taylor Poffenroth launched a grand slam home run, Isaiah Terry blasted a home run of his own and Matt Flemming went 5-for-5 at the plate, including a pair of doubles and four RBIs for Kentridge.

The Chargers (17-8), who finished third at state last year, open the state tournament this Saturday against Eastlake, the KingCo champion, at Art Wright Field in Kent.
