A fire gutted an abandoned, two-story building late Monday night in the 200 block of East Morton Street in Kent.

Firefighters from the Kent Regional Fire Authority were dispatched shortly before midnight to an unused commercial building that was being lived in by transients, according to a Kent RFA media release. A roofing business had previously occupied the building.

When firefighters arrived, they found the building fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters fought the fire from the outside due to the amount of fire damage and possibility of collapse.

There were no reports of injuries and no one was found near the structure.

Investigators ruled the cause as undetermined. Investigators won’t be able to enter the building due to the amount of damage.

King County Medic One, Zone 3 Fire Explorers and Kent Police also responded to the incident.
