Dana Ralph hosts a campaign event for Kent mayor from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 30 at Down Home Catering, 211 First Ave S.

Ralph, a Kent City Council member, is running for mayor, along with another council member, Jim Berrios and political newcomer Andrew Swansen. Suzette Cooke decided not to seek a fourth, four-year term as mayor. Her terms ends Dec. 31.

Ralph invites neighbors, family and friends for a strategic, visioning session. She entertains the public’s thoughts, hopes and plans for the city.

Kent’s mayor is a full-time position and pays $144,996 per year. Council members are part-time positions and pay $14,808 per year.

Candidates for mayor and council must file May 15-19 with King County Elections. If more than two candidates file for a position, they will be on the Aug. 1 primary ballot. The two candidates with the most votes advance to the Nov. 7 general election.
