Firefighters from Puget Sound Fire and South King Fire and Rescue responded shortly before 8 a.m. Friday to a house fire in the 2900 block of South 253rd Street on Kent’s West Hill.

Several 911 callers reported that the house was possibly abandoned. The house is just east of the Fred Meyer store.

When firefighters arrived, they found a small two-story home with flames and smoke coming from the second floor, according to a Puget Sound Fire news release. Because of the reports that the house was unoccupied, firefighters attacked the fire from the outside before going inside.

Two searches of the house confirmed that no one was inside. Trespassers have been known to occupy the house, according to Puget Sound Fire.

Investigators reported the cause of the fire as “undetermined” due to lack of evidence of an exact cause.

Seattle-based Belfor Property Restoration assisted with boarding up the house as a cost-free public service.
