A total of 957 vehicles dropped off items last month at the city of Kent’s Recycling Event at Hogan Park on Russell Road.

Despite the rainy weather, the city collected 284 tires; 42,160 pounds of scrap metal; 188 mattresses; 9,200 pounds of shredded paper and other items at the Oct. 19 event.

Residents could dispose of recyclable items that are not normally accepted at the curb.
