The first South Sound Charity 5K Run and Youth Dash on March 7 attracted nearly 200 runners.
Proceeds from the run benefited the Officer Diego Moreno Washington State University Scholarship Award. Moreno died in the line of duty in July 2018 when he was hit by another officer’s vehicle.
The run started and ended at the Half Lion Public House at the Riverbend Golf Complex in Kent.
The Kent Police Foundation and Half Lion were partners in the event. The goal was to raise $25,000 to endow the scholarship and provide financial backing to award the scholarship for many years to come. The scholarship is awarded to a WSU student majoring in criminal justice.
The event included performances, displays and raffle prizes.
