Cans of soup and other food donations are wanted by Kent United Methodist Church during its Souper Bowl Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. on Feb. 6 at the east parking lot, 11010 SE 248th St.
All soup and other items collected will be donated to the Kent Food Bank.
For the past 30 years the church has hosted a Souper Bowl Sunday luncheon where members shared soup after the Super Bowl and had a free will offering to raise funds to help local residents with rent or utilities.
Church leaders didn’t want a pandemic to break its 30-year streak, so this year they are offering Souper Bowl Saturday – Quarantine Style and opening the drive-thru donations to everyone in the community willing to donate soup or money to the Shared Bread Emergency Assistance Program that helps people pay rent or utilities.
In addition to soup, the church will accept chili, chowder, stew, Spaghetti-O’s, ravioli and other similar canned items.
